Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II
No other gaming experience has drawn me back, time after time, the way KOTOR II has. It is not without it's flaws; far from, the game is tragically beset by minor problems that niggle at the player throughout. The engine has barely been tweaked for the new game, and it shows. Minor clipping problems abound, and there is a general feeling that the game is, well...unfinished. It lacks the polish of its predecessor. There seem to be obvious points where the design team began quests, then ran out of time to finish them. But I keep on coming back, despite its flaws. Because KOTOR II captures the feel of the Star Wars universe just as well as its forefather. Jedi vs Sith battles look amazing, and it really feels like its just dropped out of the best parts of Lucas' opus. And no other game lets you really tell the story the way it does. No other game makes you, the player, feel as important to the game as it does. Many games tell you a good story, but KOTOR II lets you tell your own epic tale, make your own moral choices, and live with their consequences. No other game makes you the the centre of its world, no other game lets you tell the story you made the way it does. For all its flaws, thats what brings me back to the game time and again. Maybe KOTOR was a better game, more polished, better produced. But KOTOR II is a far greater experience.
