The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind WakerWhere to start? The Wind Waker is an amazing game. The story is brilliant, with twists and turns and links to the other LOZ games. The cel shaded graphics may look a little childish and silly, but they create a massive and sprawling environment that is beautiful to look at. There is fantastic music - nothing else is expected from this series - from start to finish, that is guaranteed to have you humming along in virtually no time at all.
Some newcomers to the series may find the idea of 'sail for ages, find island, complete massive dungeon, get item to be used for next dungeon, sail for ages' a tad repetitive and boring, but that is the general idea of the LOZ games (Except for sailing for ages, of course). The sailing from place to place can seem a bit time consuming, but with treasure troves to dig up and triforce shards to locate, combined with the stunning music and graphics can soften the boredom of the journey.
However, The Wind Waker comes up trumps in the gameplay department. Adopting the now usual 'Lock on' style of fighting that is familiar to fans of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, but simple enough for first time players to use, and simple battle controls, players will tap a few buttons and see link pulling off some incredibly stylish combos with his sword. The games use of sound comes into play in fighting as well, with the music changing and reacting to each succesful hit on an enemy the player gets.
In conclusion, despite the somewhat short game length compared to other RPG titles and a few minor niggles with the sailing, The Wind Waker is definitely one of the most stupendous games on the GameCube. Buy it now, or we'll have Ganondorf knocking on your door demanding an explanation.....
