Playstation 2 Game Reviews: Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4
This is a fantastic evolution of the Resident Evil franchise. The previous versions of Resident Evil were pretty good, on the GameCube they were great. Yet they all had pretty much the same gameplay which was good, but was getting old. The standard prerendered backgrounds with the character in 3D has now given way to a full rich realtime rendered 3D world which looks amazing. This version of Resident Evil is more or less a 3rd person shooter with elements of problem solving mixed in, a very welcome change to the standard format of the previous Resident Evil titles. This time, the story follows a commissioned agent who was at ground zero during the Racoon City incident. He has been hired to locate and retrieve the daughter of the president from a Spanish European state, the problem is, the occupants of the city are shall we say...a little off. They have built a religion around the blood virus developed by the Umbrella Corporation and have found a way to use the virus to control people. I don't want to give away any more of the storyline, let's just say it is really good and evolves even deeper as you play. The gampley is a little difficult at first to get a good grasp of, but after a few bouts with the infected you begin developing your own combination attack system which just adds to the games appeal. The graphics are amazing, they really show what the Playstation 2 is capable of. The sound is great and really adds to the eerie ambience. I highly recommend this game to all gamers who are fans of the Resident Evil, Silent Hill or the like franchise. It's great addictive game.
