XBox Game Reviews: The Matrix: Path of Neo

The Matrix: Path of Neo
This title falls quite short of its predecessor Enter The Matrix. The idea is quite cool however, play through the life of Neo but this time you make your own choices about what to do. For instance, in the movie Neo chickened out when it came to climbing outside the building where he worked, in the game you can actually take that route. The main problem with this game in my opinion is the gameplay and control. It is very clumsy, slow and tiresome. I was really hoping this would be a good follow up to the previous Matrix game, but unfortunately it falls quite short. The graphics are quite glitchy and not very impressive at all. Carried objects move freely through the floor, wall and whatever else is in the room at the time. The main character animation has him gliding down the stairs instead of walking or running with some sort of foot per stair. The sound is decent, nothing really stands out here as good or bad, just decent. The storyline is very cool, I really like the idea, which is what originally attractted to this title. The control in this game is what really would have made or broke this title, unfortunately in this case it breaks it. It is extremely difficult to perform the most simple of moves do to the clumsiness of the control system. You have the ability to block, dodge, push, throw, focus, etc but the manner in which you have to perform these just kills the gameplay. I tried to just cope with the poor control hoping to move on, but after a while the game just became too painful to play. I don't recommend this game, I find it to be a very poor follow up to a good game.
