GBA Game Reviews: Disney's That's SO Raven

Disney's That's SO Raven
"That's So Raven is an American television show/semi-sketch comedy produced by the Disney Channel. The plot revolves around Raven's schemes to get herself, or one of her friends or family members, out of a situation usually by utilizing her psychic powers."

Ok, so this game is based on that tv show, or the movie made out of the tv show (yes I saw something about a movie). Apparently this game is meant for those college/high-school girls that like to play the GBA? I hope it is, since it didn't work for me.

-Graphics-
Well, not much to say about here. You should look at the screenshots and decide if you like them or not. There are some kind of cutscene-like screens, the psychical powers the main character has, which I think is called Raven by the way? These scenes have a rather funky look to them, since they are real images/animations, starring the main character. There's a mixture of game graphics though, so it isn't entirely funky animation. And when I say funky, I don't mean good, just average. The backgrounds are made in 2D..or atleast I think they are, since I'm pretty sure that even you can move in the x/z axis, it's just an illusion of movement. (No, I didn't encounter any jumping/climbing in the game but hey, as I said before, I got stuck in the first mission) The characters, I'd say, are poor 3D. They have more blocks in them than the average Lego pack.. So there's not really anything magnificent in the game as far as graphics are concerned. 6/10

[For those who have played Shadowrun on the SNES, the environment is built in a similar way in this game, although I would certainly prefer the one in Shadowrun]

-Audio-
Well, there's the funky "intro"-music. And then there's a bunch of sound effects. You can find bottles of water and vials of perfume in the game (which will be discussed further on in the review) and when you pick them up you'll hear a dull "plop" sound. And when you use them, they sound exactly the same. I'll swear it's the same sound effect! How boring, did they put any real effort into this game? You can also wave your purse around, producing a sort of whooshing sound... It was the only sound I liked. There are janitors in the game, which go about the hall hovering the floor. The sound coming from that resembles someone trying to whisper while being on a breathing machine. Also the sound of you getting hurt when hitting something is really, really odd. I'd give the sounds a 4/10.

-Gameplay-
Gameplay is simple. You can move on the x/z axis (which could as well be the x/y axis because the ability to move in three dimensions seems to be an illusion). Avoid garbage bins with green goo, janitors doing their business in the apparent high-school and guys pushing around trolleys with tv's on them? Perhaps I'm not familiar enough with everyday American school life but I'm starting to get the feeling that the makers of this game just wanted to sell something related to the tv show, thus throwing some brainless ideas into the game, without seriously thinking about it... oh yes, then there are the boys that throw cupcakes at you with no apparent motive. But ah, don't worry, you can press the B-Button to swirl your purse or bag or whaddayacallit to repel the evil flying cupcakes! You can also stop the janitors/moving enemies by pouring a bottle of water in front of them or spraying them with perfume. The effects and resulting animations are always the same though.I'd say the gameplay works. And unfortunately, there's nothing more to say. 6/10

All in all, I don't recommend you waste your time with this game unless you're a die-hard fan of the movie/tv show...
