Shadow The HedgehogBummer, this game was kind of a let down. I was really looking forward to getting my hands on this title. I've been a Sonic fan from the old Genesis days and was hoping that Sega had learned its lesson from Sonic Heroes, but unfortunately it looks like that haven't. This game starts off well enough, simple storyline, fast gameplay, and you can just run...finally. Soon enough though, you begin to realized that they changed the controls and functionality that really made Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 fun to play. First off, you now have to hit a different button to lightdash. Secondly, you have to hold another button to turn into a ball and spin up. Thirdly, you can't ball up when you're running or quickly unball and continue running at the same speed. And another thing, when you're grinding on a rail you can't crouch down and gain speed, all you can do is hit the X button to jump 180. Guys! This is what Shadow and Sonic are all about. It's the speed and control, not just the speed. The new controls just makes this game clumbsy. Another problem I had with this game is the length of the game. This is one of those games where you can complete the game very quickly with almost no difficulty because the quantity of levels to complete are very few and not very challenging. Then, you are supposed to replay the game several times completing different tasks for good or evil to play through different levels. Now, I don't mind playing a good game over and over again. I played Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 over and over again because the control and gameplay was killer. Unfortunately for Shadow The Hedgehog, this is just not the case. The multiplayer mode on this game is just boring. It's almost like they tried to create a Sonic styled deathmatch...boring. The sound on this game is good, the voiceovers are the same and there is new music to run to. The graphics are good, they follow right inline with the other Sonic games. The storyline...well the storyline is basically Shadow trying to figure out who he is, good or evil. This type of game has really always been about the gameplay. What I don't understand is why the Sega team keeps changing the formula that was perfect just the way it was. Don't change the controls, keep those the same...just change everything else. The gameplay has to stay the same to keep Sonic Adventure lovers happy, I was terribly dissappointed. I don't recommend this game as a follow-up Sonic title. It's not very good.
