DS Game Reviews: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
This version of Castlevania for the Nintendo DS is great. This game is much more organized than the previous GBA versions. It reminds me a lot of Castlevania IV (for all the old school NES people out there). It has a great storyline, fantastic graphics and a very well implemented leveling and RPG system. One of the things I really like out this version is the use of the Dual Screen. Now instead of having to toggle screens back and forth to find out where you are on the map, you can simply set you upper screen to display it while you play. Another great thing is the use of different weapons. Your no longer tied to the whip and variations there of. Now you start out with a blade and continue forward from there. The sound is good and works extremely well for this game. The gameplay is fantastic, it makes very good use of the RPG system to determine how fast you can hit with a specific weapon, damage, etc. If you're just strong enough to carry a weapon, you can use it but it will be slow. After you've leveled up a bit and your strength is higher, you'll find that wielding the same weapon is no sweat. Magic is also learned from defeating enemies as well as in other places. One of the things you will soon learn when playing this game is equipping the right magic at the right time is key to overcoming obstacles. All this combined with the new touch screen elements make this a must have game for fans of the genre. I highly remommend this game to all.
