Gothic 3What a let down this game is. After all the hype and press about how this game was going to be better than Oblivion, it falls not short, but flat on its face. The game is extremely clunky, with a very slow quick load and normal load. It's so slow in fact that I believe quick load and normal load are doing the exact same thing. The controls aren't very good, the fighting is rather bad, the voice overs are awful, what part of this game was supposedly better than Oblivion?
The graphics themselves are ok, about comparible to Guild Wars, but definately nothing like Oblivion. The rendering engine they are using is very choppy. Even when running on a monster PC like mine, we're talking 4Gb RAM, 3.2 Ghz processor and dual NVidia SLI 256 graphics cards, the game is just glitchy and choppy when looking and moving around.
The sound is nothing to write home to Mom about. The music is drab, the voicing is terrible and even the subtitles are below standard in font and size.
The storyline is OK, but once again nothing really special. The quests are about the same as the original Gothic, but just a lot less interesting due to the engine.
The game controls take a bit of getting used to and don't really keep you in the game. I prefer to play my RPG and adventure games in first person mode if possible. Gothic 3 will let you look and move in first person mode until you actually do something like talk to someone, then it pops you back into third person and leaves it like that. Hello! Yeah, Piranha Bytes...What the hell?
I hate to say this, being that I loved the first Gothic so much, but avoid this game like the plague. This game was either rushed or just plain screwed up from the get go.
