The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Wow, this game took my breath away. The graphics alone in this game are unbelievable, not to mention that it has a killer storyline, amazing gameplay and an enormous world to explore. This game strikes me as a combination of some of the best elements of the best games ever made. The sneaking, visibility and stealing aspects of Thief. The large scale interactive living world of Gothic. This game is truly amazing down to every detail. The voice acting is fantastic and incorporates the acting talent of Patrick Steward and a few others. The character creation is also unlike anything I've seen before. When you build your character you do much more than just choose a race. With Oblivion, you choose the basics of hair color, skin tone, etc. Then you choose the more subtle features such as bone definition, cheek height, eyebrow placement, lip size, you name it. Then as your character progresses you can choose your class, etc. Your character also evolves in realtime as actions are performed, giving you more of a real experience gained approach. For example, as you jump and climb, your athletic ability rises. This world is amazing and vibrant just waiting to be explored. The attention to detail is almost overwhelming and the storyline really adds to the overall appeal of this game. At times you will be asked to venture to a hellish alternate dimension called Oblivion, which looks amazingly evil. If you don't have this game then you need to get it. Those of you who have it know exactly what I'm talking about. I recommend this game as a must have to all fans of the RPG genre.
